About the Office of Research

The Office of Research supports a broad array of investigative endeavors across our campus. It is our goal to support administrative needs of investigators and research staff to facilitate scientific discovery, promote translational approaches to research, and foster scientific collaboration across the Medical College of Wisconsin campuses.  We provide:

  • Resources for linking investigators with funding opportunities;
  • Assistance in preparing and submitting grant applications;
  • Comprehensive research education and training opportunities;
  • Oversight to ensure regulatory compliance and safety.

Located on the third floor of the MACC Fund Building, the Office of Research works to strengthen the preeminent academic investigative tradition at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Ann B. Nattinger, MD, MPH, MACP

Professor of Medicine

Director, Center for Patient Care and Outcomes Research


Dr. Ann Nattinger stepped into the role of Senior Associate Dean for Research in October, 2015. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Nattinger served as Division Chief of General Internal Medicine for 15 years. A major proponent of research in academic medicine, Dr. Nattinger also founded the Center for Patient Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR) in 2001 and has served as Center Director ever since.

Dr. Nattinger is a nationally recognized cancer health services researcher, focusing on breast cancer treatment, survivorship and outcomes. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense and the American Cancer Society. She has authored or co-authored more than 170 scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters. Among Dr. Nattinger’s many accomplishments, she received the esteemed designation as a “Master” of medicine from the American College of Physicians. Additionally, Dr. Nattinger received the Distinguished Service Award in 2012, MCW’s highest faculty and staff honor.

I believe strongly that effective patient care is rooted deeply in an institution’s ability to support, encourage, and sustain viable, innovative research.
