Responsibility in Research

The Medical College of Wisconsin adheres to the highest scientific and ethical standards in the conduct of research.  Some of the key areas of responsibility are highlighted below.


MCW has filed formal assurances and registrations with governing federal and state agencies and maintains voluntary accreditations for its research subject protection programs.

Authorship and Publication

MCW maintains an institutional policy on Authorship on Scientific and Scholarly Publications, accessible via the intranet site InfoScope.

Confidentiality and Privacy

An overview of institutional policies, including HIPAA, pertaining to privacy of research data.

Data Management & Record Keeping

Information on what you need to do to ensure your research records are properly maintained, stored and secured.

Financial Conflicts of Interest

MCW maintains a corporate policy on Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research which meets all requirements of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regulations.

Guidelines for Lab Notebooks

The laboratory notebook ensures that there is proper documentation of a research study; these guidelines will assist you with proper maintenance.

Responsible Conduct of Research Instruction

MCW offers an instructional program in the responsible conduct of research as required by NIH and NSF policies.

NIH Public Access Policy

The NIH Public Access Policy requires that any peer-reviewed article accepted for publication on or after April 7, 2008 that arises from NIH funds be submitted to PubMed Central.
