Martin Makary, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Martin Makary will present "The Future of Health Care:  Quality, Prices and the Art of Bedside Patient Care" at a combined Froedtert/MCP Quality Office and Department of Surgery Grand Rounds on June 30 at 8:30 a.m. in the Helfaer Auditorium. 

Dr. Makary is Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Johns Hopkins Islet Transplant Center and Professor of Health Policy & Management at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.  He is a Clinical Lead for the Johns Hopkins Sibley Innovation Hub and serves as Executive Director of Improving Wisely, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation project to lower health care costs in the U.S. by creating measures of appropriateness in health care.  He is the author of the New York Times best-selling book Unaccountable, which addresses patient safety and physician-led transparency efforts in health care.  Dr. Makary has published over 200 scientific articles, including the first description of “frailty” impacting surgical outcomes, the original studies on safety culture measurement in hospitals, and an evaluation of the Orphan Drug Act.

Please join us for Dr. Makary’s educational and inspirational presentation, which will provide the opportunity for us to reflect on the “why” of patient safety and transparency.
