Four honored with 2014 T. Michael Bolger Standing Ovation Awards
April 08, 2014 College News - Three faculty members and a staff member were selected to receive the 2014 T. Michael Bolger Standing Ovation Award. The awards were presented at a reception on April 7.
The Standing Ovation Awards recognize individuals affiliated with the College who have enhanced the quality of campus life for the students of MCW and gone above and beyond their required duties to provide exemplary educational, social or organizational improvements in the student community. They are presented annually by the Student Assembly.
This year’s winners include David M. Gourlay, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery (Pediatric Surgery); Todd M. Hoagland, PhD, Associate Professor of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy; Amy J. Leisten, Medical Education Coordinator II in the Department of Surgery; and Jaren Thomas, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine (General Internal Medicine).
Dr. Gourlay was selected because he “diligently responds promptly to any questions and makes sure he is intimately involved in advising ongoing research and also 4th year planning and beyond.” Dr. Hoagland was selected because he is “approachable and goes above and beyond to make sure students understand the underlying fundamentals rather than relying on rote memorization, and, just as important, solicits feedback on his own performance.” Amy Leisten was selected because she “works tirelessly to ensure that students have an excellent experience, and because she is a caring listener and problem solver who the students can depend on.” Dr. Thomas was selected because he “consistently encourages and pushes each student to reach his or her full potential and provide excellent patient care.”
The winners were selected by the Student Assembly from a distinguished group of nominations submitted by students, faculty and staff. In all, 15 nominees were honored during the luncheon and ceremony for their outstanding contributions.
