Curriculum Vitae

Professor John Klein joined the Division of Biostatistics in the summer of 1993 coming from the Ohio State University where he was Professor of Statistics and Preventive Medicine. He was formerly the Statistical Director of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. Dr. John Klein has authored over 160 papers, many on statistical methods. His text Survival Analysis: Statistical Methods for Censored and Truncated Data, 2nd Edition with Professor Moeschberger is a standard textbook on survival analysis. His research is in the areas of survival analysis, competing risks, and multistate modeling.

Dr. Klein's other research interest include probabilistic models for cancer and the metastatic process, graphical association models for longitudinal data and techniques for the design and analysis of clinical trials. These techniques have been applied, for example, to transplant data, to data from the Framingham Heart Study and to data from the Danish Breast Cancer Cooperative Group.  His research is funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute. Professor Klein is the statistical director of the Center for International Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Research. He is a statistical advisor to the National Marrow Donor Program. He is a co-investigator on projects with the Department of Emergency Medicine, Orthopedics, the Center for human Genetics, and the School of Engineering at Marquette University.
