This Initiative aims to facilitate clinical and outcomes research, and quality improvement efforts in the Department. Assist in developing study protocols, submitting grants, building and maintaining databases for research, providing statistical support and statistical education.
The Division of Epidemiology provides a graduate program in Epidemiology for residents and fellows of the College. The division also administers the Clinical Research Scholars Program. This program is made up of a diverse group of researchers, educators, physicians and faculty who work with junior clinical faculty to promote research and research education while fostering collaborations. Professor Brazauskas is the Biostatistician for the group and our PhD students provide statistical support to this program.
The Division’s faculty have been involved with a number of projects with the Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory of the Medical College. This Lab and faculty from the Department of Orthopedics, Marquette University’s Biomedical Engineering Program and Shiner’s Hospital in Chicago support a wide range of clinical and research oriented investigations. Clinically, the Lab has been structured to serve total joint, foot and ankle, sports medicine, and pediatric patients for evaluation during gait and other activities. Research applications include studies of surgical intervention, orthotic and prosthetic treatment, and therapy upon upper and lower extremity motion and control. From the Division of Biostatistics Professor Klein provides support to the lab and a senior PhD student also works on laboratory projects.
The Injury Research Center at the Medical College conducts research in wide ranging aspects of injury and its treatment. Ongoing projects include quality of life after trauma, biomechanics of penetrating brain injury, violence related fatalities and injuries, and psychological factors in adjustment after traumatic injury. Professor Laud collaborates with various researchers in the Center.
Professors Wang and Klein are biostatisticians for an international study of the effect of KIR matching in bone marrow transplant.
The Division of Biostatistics is involved in orthopedic research by the Human Motion Analysis Lab as well as the Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Engineering Center (OREC). Professor Klein and advanced graduate students are provided research opportunities with these organizations.
