Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Biostatistics is three-fold. First, the Division provides basic biostatistical support to the Medical College of Wisconsin’s community of Biomedical Researchers. This mission is met through our faculty and staff’s work on a wide range of collaborative research projects at MCW, Marquette University, The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Zablocki Milwaukee VA Medical Center, the National Marrow Donor Program in Minneapolis, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, and the University of Minnesota. The Division actively supports collaborative research through its Biostatistical Consulting Center which serves several hundred investigators a year.

Second, the Division is committed to quality research in statistical methods. Division faculty have an international reputation for their work in survival analysis. Much of this work is supported by funds from the National Institute of Health. Other research areas are Bayesian statistics, missing data analysis, statistical imaging, multiple testing, statistical genetics and cluster data analysis.

Finally, the Division has a major commitment to its PhD program in Biostatistics. Students in this program receive a rigorous training in statistical methods and they gain valuable experience in collaborative research through their consulting activities.
