NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED CONFERENCE SPEAKERS

Mario De La Rosa, Ph.D.
Professor, Robert Stempel School of Public Health, Florida International University

Dr. De La Rosa is the author of more than 80 scholarly publications focusing on Latino substance use, substance use as a risk factor for HIV/AIDS, violence, delinquency, and cross-cultural issues. He also serves as Director and Principal Investigator of the Center for Substance Use and AIDS Research on Latinos in the United States. The primary aim of this Center is to contribute to the reduction, prevention, and eventual elimination of HIV and substance abuse health dispartities affecting Latino minorities in the United States.
Maria Cecilia Zea, Ph.D.
Professor, Department of Psychology, George Washington University

Dr. Zea is Director of the Latino Health Research Center and a member of the HIV/AIDS Institute, both at George Washington University. Her primary research interests are behavioral aspects of HIV/AIDS among Latinos. Widely published, Dr. Zea has served as Principal Investigator of several federally funded grants, including an NIMH project on disclosure of HIV status among Latino gay men, an NICHD project on contextual factors of sexual risk among Latino MSM, and an NICHD grant investigating various aspects surrounding circumcision.
Scott D. Rhodes, Ph.D.
Professor, Dept. of Social Sciences & Health Policy, Wake Forest School of Medicine

Dr. Rhodes is a public health scientist whose research focuses on the integration of community development and health promotion within disease prevention interventions in both rural and urban settings. Specifically, his research explores sexual health; HIV and STD prevention; and health disparities among vulnerable communities. He has extensive experience working with Latino communities; urban African American adolescents; persons living with HIV and AIDS; men of color; self-identified gay and bisexual men; and men who have sex with men.
Ana P. Martinez-Donate, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Dept. of Population Health Sciences, U of Wisconsin-Madison

Dr. Martinez-Donate's research interests range from HIV prevention to tobacco control, cancer screening, health literacy, and obesity prevention. Her work emphasizes underserved and vulnerable populations, particularly Latino immigrants. She is currently Principal Investigator for an NIH-funded grant aimed at estimating the risk for HIV infection, identifying risk determinants, and examining health care access among Mexican migrants in the United States.
