Ellen's Icebreaker for Cancer Research

Saturday, February 13, 2016

The 4th Annual Ellen's Icebreaker for Cancer Research will be held Saturday, February 13, 11 a.m., at Nagawicka Lake in Hartland.

Donations to cancer research are suggested for participation in the plunge, with no minimum donation required.

This "polar plunge" event is held in memory of Ellen Smith, a beloved Froedtert Hospital employee who died of gastric cancer in October 2013 at the age of 59.

People who do not want to brave the elements can participate by donating in support of someone making the plunge.

Proceeds from the event support the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. The first polar plunge was held early in 2013, when Ellen Smith was still undergoing treatment for cancer. Since then, friends and family members have donated nearly $85,000 to cancer research at MCW.
