Rock concert on May 10 to benefit MCW cancer research

April 22 - On Saturday, May 10, Shattered, a Rolling Stones tribute band, and Substitute, a tribute to The Who, will perform in a concert to benefit cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Tickets are $10, payable at the door the night of the event. Guests must be 21 years of age or older or accompanied by a legal guardian. The concert will take place at Shank Hall in Milwaukee.

Nationally renowned cancer disparities researcher Dr. Terrance Albrecht to speak on campus April 17

April 08 - The Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center is hosting a special talk by Teri Albrecht, PhD, on Thursday, April 17, from 3-4 p.m. in the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Auditorium. Dr. Albrecht, who is Associate Center Director for Population Sciences and Leader of the Population Studies and Disparities Research Program at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, will give a presentation titled, Reducing Cancer Health Disparities through Community-Engaged Research.

Governor Walker signs Cancer Treatment Fairness Act at Clinical Cancer Center

April 07 - On Thursday, April 4, with more than 300 patients, advocates, and members of the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin communities in attendance at the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center, Governor Scott Walker signed the Cancer Treatment Fairness Act, Senate Bill 300, into law.

Deadline extended to submit posters for the June 6 MCW Cancer Center scientific retreat

April 07 - The MCW Cancer Center 2014 Scientific Retreat will focus on creating connections and partnerships that promote translational research. Cancer biologist Dafna Bar-Sagi, PhD, is the keynote speaker for the event, which will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6, 2014, at American Serb Hall, 5101 W. Oklahoma Ave., Milwaukee.

Governor Walker Signs Oral Chemotherapy Bill

Apr 7 - Governor Scott Walker signed into law that requires insurance companies to provide the same type of coverage to oral chemotherapies as traditional chemotherapies delivered intravenously. Fox 6 News

Apr 3 - Waukesha Now published a feature article on 10-year-old Jacob Sharp who raised $330 for the MCW Cancer Center in his grandfather’s memory. WaukeshaNOW

Wine dinner at The Capital Grille to benefit Medical College Cancer Center

April 02 -The Capital Grille in Milwaukee will host a wine dinner Sunday, April 27, to benefit cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Cancer Center and the Peter K. Antaramian Fund for Cancer Research at MCW.

Laughing for a Cure event on April 25 to raise funds for abdominal cancer research

Mar. 31 - The second annual Laughing for a Cure will be held Friday, April 25, at 6 p.m. at Milwaukee’s Comedy Café, 615 E. Brady Street. Proceeds from the event, which will include three live comics, will go to the Sebastian Raclaw Abdominal Cancer Research Fund at the Medical College of Wisconsin, which supports innovative abdominal cancer research.

Bon-Ton Stores Raise $375,000 for Breast Cancer Research

Mar 26 - The Concord (NH) Monitor reports that Bon-Ton Stores nationwide (Boston Store in Wisconsin) raised $375,000 through its annual Charge Against Breast Cancer campaign. Concord Monitor

Amended Bill Passes Wisconsin Assembly

Mar 26 - The Wisconsin Assembly passed an amended bill that would require health insurance companies to cover oral chemotherapy. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
