Prophylactic Cranial Irradiation Prevents Early Lung Cancer Metastases to the Brain

A national Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) study led by a Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center physician has found that a course of radiation therapy to the brain after treatment for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer reduced the risk of metastases to the brain within the first year after treatment.

Sylvain Baillet, PhD, Associate Professor of Neurology and Scientific Director of the Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Magnetoencepghalography (MEG) Program, has co-edited a special issue of the journal "Human Brain Mapping" that focuses on electromagnetic brain mapping, a new functional brain imaging method with high temporal resolution.
