2010 Events
13th Annual Showhouse for a Cure and Boutique
The 13th Annual Showhouse for a Cure will be held at 2433 North Wahl Avenue. The house will be open for tours Saturday, June 5 through Sunday, June 20. Tickets are $20 at the Showhouse and $18 at ticket outlets, available after May 1. Ticket outlet locations will be listed on the Showhouse website (www.breastcancershowhouse.org) after April 15.
The Showhouse is open for tours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; Thursday 10:00 am to 8:00 pm; and Sunday noon to 4:00 pm. Last admission begins 30 minutes before closing. The Showhouse Boutique is open during Showhouse tours hours and can be visited by the public without a ticket.

MACC Fund
The MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.) is the College's largest single donor, contributing over $23 million to our pediatric cancer research efforts since its inception in 1976. The MACC Fund benefits from a variety of traditional funding sources. The majority of the income comes from special events. There are about 60 events or programs annually from a variety of sporting events including the MACC Fund Golf Tour and the annual Bucks MACC Fund Game, to grocery retail programs, TODAY'S TMJ4 programming, special family activities and much more. The MACC Fund supports the Midwest Children's Cancer Center with research conducted in the 141,000 square foot MACC Fund Research Center of the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse
The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse was founded in 1998 as an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charitable organization by Nancé Kinney, a breast cancer survivor. Its mission is to support breast and prostate cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Since its founding the Showhouse’s contributions to the Medical College of Wisconsin total $3.5 million. The Showhouse raises funds year-round through a variety of unique and exciting events. The center of these events is the Showhouse for a Cure. Dozens of local interior designers, landscape artists and artisans contribute substantial time, talent and furnishings to make each Showhouse spectacular.
Bon Ton Stores, Inc.
Bon Ton Stores, Inc., the parent company for Boston Store, Younkers and Herberger's stores, raises funds for breast cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin in several ways. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, stores donate a portion of purchases made using their in-store credit card in a promotion called “Charge Against Breast Cancer.” Additionally, a portion of sales of the specially designed items found in the Pink Shops will be donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin. The Pink Shops carry over 20 items with a breast cancer awareness theme. Since 1998, Bon Ton has donated more than $540,000 to breast cancer research at the Medical College.
Rock River HOG Chapter’s Ridin’ to a Cure
Every year, on the last Saturday of September, the Rock River HOG Chapter of Oconomowoc WI, hosts a fund raiser motorcycle ride for breast cancer research. This ride is called Ridin’ to a Cure. On September 29th, 2007 the 13th annual Ridin' to a Cure event raised $295,000 with over 2100 participants. Each year, the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center has the opportunity to apply for a portion of these funds for basic science research projects.
Team 4, Racing to Fight Cancer
Team 4, Racing to Fight Cancer was founded by professional tri-athlete, Heather Haviland. After losing both of her parents to cancer, Heather wanted to make a difference and take action. Team 4 was formed in 2006 in an effort to raise awareness of and funds for the "4" cancers that predominately affect women: breast, uterine, cervical and ovarian. Over 30 remarkable women took part in the memorable inaugural year, raising close to $100,000 for the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center.
Drive Fore A Cure Golf Outing
The Drive Fore A Cure Golf Outing was founded in 2005 by Dennis M. Bush, a lymphoma cancer survivor. Together with his planning committee of dedicated volunteers, Dennis has hosted an enjoyable and successful event which for the past two years has been held at Hidden Glen Country Club in Cedarburg. A portion of the proceeds raised by the outing support the work of James Wade, M.D., Chief and Mariette C. and Philip W. Orth/ Tom Anderson Professor in Neoplastic Diseases.
Bead & Button Show
The is the largest jewelry and bead show in the nation. Over 370 vendors sell one-of-a-kind finished jewelry plus precious gems, pearls, art beads, gold and silver, beading supplies and books. The show features a juried exhibit of inspiring bead art and over 500 bead and jewelry classes. Funds are raised for breast cancer research through a silent and a live auction. In 2007, the Bead & Button Show doubled their donation to the Medical College from the previous year! More than $30,000 has been contributed to date.
Ann’s Hope Foundation
Ann’s Hope Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable/not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to raise awareness of the dangers of melanoma cancer and to raise the level of research, early detection, and prevention efforts in the community. The Foundation was founded by two friends who both lost a loved one to melanoma cancer. Funds are raised through annual events including a gala, held in February, and a run/walk, held in May. In 2007, the Foundation donated $65,000 to support work at the College to refine a test that detects whether or not melanoma cancer cells have spread into the lymph nodes.
Northern Athletics Conference Volleyball Teams “Dig for Life”
The Northern Athletics Conference Volleyball Teams annually participate in “Dig for Life,” a program designed to raise donations as well as awareness for breast cancer research. The program is held throughout the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pledges are made for each dig the teams make during their home matches that month. All money raised supports breast cancer research at the Medical College.
Denise M. Leinss Breast Cancer Research Fund
Denise M. Leinss was diagnosed in 2001 with breast cancer and died of the disease only two years later, at age 42. Her parents, Jim and Colleen, established the Denise M. Leinss Breast Cancer Research Fund at the Medical College of Wisconsin initially as a vehicle for the gifts received in Denise’s memory. The Fund has continued to grow however with annual contributions from Casa Grande hair salon, the Executive Women’s Golf Association and Jim and Colleen’s own annual golf event.
Gail Sibley Longe Fund
The Gail Sibley Longe Fund was established at the Medical College of Wisconsin to raise money for ovarian cancer research. The Fund’s namesake died within only four months of being diagnosed with the disease in 2000. The Fund was formed by her mother, Ede, and her sister, Vicki. Their goal is to aid in the development of a test to detect ovarian cancer. Vicki and Ede have raised over $62,000 by selling special limited edition holiday ornaments, along with lapel pins and charms. All items feature an angel and the teal ovarian cancer awareness ribbon.
West Bend HOG Chapter
For the past two years, the West Bend HOG Chapter has donated the proceeds of their Judy Bernardie Memorial Golf Outing to the Medical College for breast cancer research, A HOG Chapter member, Judy Bernardie died in 2005 of breast cancer. The Chapter keeps her memory alive and raises funds for research by hosting a golf outing in September at Edgewood Golf Course.
Milwaukee Women’s Bowling Association
Since 2001, the Milwaukee Women’s Bowling Association has donated the proceeds of raffles held during their season to the Medical College of Wisconsin for gynecological oncology research.
