American Cancer Society Pilot Research Grants

The American Cancer Society provides seed money to support independent, self-directed investigators early in their careers with the goal of enabling them to compete successfully for national grants. ACS Pilot Research Grants are up to $30,000 for one year, but successful grantees will be considered for a second year of support (see note below). To qualify for an ACS Pilot Research Grant, the PI (a) must be an MCW junior faculty member (Assistant Professor or Instructor) within 6 yrs of first faculty appointment), (b) must not have any current national grant support (K-awards are allowed), and (c) must be a US citizen, non-national citizen or lawfully admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence.
Important Note: Applicants for all Cancer Center grants must be members of the MCW Cancer Center or have an application for membership pending at the time of submission of a grant application. Spring 2013 Deadlines
April 30: Send a brief (non-binding) email “Notice of Intent” before April 30th to cancergrants@mcw.edu. Include the name, title, department and institution of the PI along with a tentative project title. No description of the project is needed. IMPORTANT: Include the RFA Code (ACS PILOT-13A) in the subject line of all emails.
May 10: The MCW Grants & Contracts Office (GCO) must be given a minimum of 5 business days to review grant applications. Submit the application to GCO as a “New Funding Proposal” in eBridge no later than Friday, May 10, 2013. If you have a safety protocol for the proposed project, link it to the funding proposal in eBridge. Include the RFA Code (ACS PILOT-13A) in the short title in eBridge.

May 17: After GCO approval is obtained, submit a single PDF file of the complete application to cancergrants@mcw.edu no later than Friday, May 17, 2013. Include the RFA Code (ACS PILOT-13A) in the subject line of all emails. No paper copies are required. Compile any supplementary material into a single PDF file and send as a separate email.
