Basic Research Seed Grants in Breast & Prostate Cancer

The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse (WBCS) supports innovative basic research projects on breast and prostate cancer.  The relevance of the work to breast or prostate cancer must be clearly described in the application.  Preliminary data that support the experimental hypothesis or approach should be included in the application.  The maximum award is $100,000 over two years.  Three awards will be made. 

Please note that PIs with a currently active WBCS grant or those previously supported by a grant from the WBCS are not eligible to apply until one year after completion of their previous grant.

Qualifications and Conditions for Cancer Center Grants.  To apply for a grant, the PI must have an MCW faculty appointment (regular or adjunct) and must be a member of the Cancer Center or have a membership application pending at the time of application.   All applications must be for support of a NEW project; applications for continued support of previously funded projects will not be accepted.  Salary for a post-doctoral fellow or technical help is permitted, but salary for the PI (or any Co-Investigators) is not allowed.

Deadlines


  • January 31, 2013:  A brief “Notice of Intent” to apply should be sent to cancergrants@mcw.edu before the end of January 2013.  Include the grant category, name of PI, names of any co-investigators, and tentative project title.
  • February 8, 2013:  The MCW Grants & Contracts Office (GCO) MUST be given a minimum of five business days to review grant applications.  MCW-salaried faculty should submit their application to the GCO as a “New Funding Proposal” in eBridge no later than Friday, Feb. 8th[Adjunct faculty: See instructions on application form!]
  • February 15, 2013:  After receiving GCO approval, submit a single PDF file of the application to cancergrants@mcw.edu no later than Friday, Feb. 15th.   Send any supporting materials (e.g., manuscripts or papers) as a separate single PDF file.  No paper copies of the application or supporting materials are required.

Note: Restriction on Multiple Awards


The MCW Cancer Center and WBCS Scientific Committee have adopted a policy for recipients of past or current WBCS awards. At least one full year must pass from the end date of a WBCS project award and the start date of a new WBCS award.  Any application must be for a new project and not for continuation of previously funded work.
