Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Cancer Center membership is open to individuals who have demonstrated an interest in cancer-related research and/or cancer-related clinical activities. Membership in the MCW Cancer Center is a privilege that provides several unique benefits.

Membership Criteria
Research Member
Established investigators must meet the following requirements:
MCW academic appointment (Assistant Professor or above) or a professional appointment with MCW affiliated hospitals and organizations deemed appropriate by the Director
Principal investigator of cancer-related, peer-reviewed
*
funded research OR Named investigator/collaborator of cancer-related, peer-reviewed* funded research OR Major contributor in the development and implementation of cancer-related institutional clinical trials AND a minimum of 5 patient clinical trial registrations per year
Recent cancer-related publications (during the last three years) in peer-reviewed professional journals
Clear commitment to participate in one or more MCW Cancer Center Research Programs
Utilization of MCW Cancer Center shared resources (core facilities) as appropriate
Junior investigators must meet the following requirements:
MCW academic appointment (Assistant Professor or Instructor) or a professional appointment with MCW affiliated hospitals and organizations deemed appropriate by the Director
Actively pursuing cancer-related funding
Recent cancer-related publications (during the last three years) in peer-reviewed professional journals
Clear commitment to participate in one or more MCW Cancer Center Research Programs
Utilization of MCW Cancer Center shared resources (core facilities) as appropriate
Clinical Member
Must meet the following requirements:
MCW academic appointment (Assistant Professor or above) or a professional appointment with MCW affiliated hospitals and organizations deemed appropriate by the Director
Significant professional involvement in cancer care and/or education
Clear commitment to participate in the development of the MCW Cancer Center’s mission

Application Process:
Read the membership criteria and determine which membership level is appropriate.
Complete the electronic application and email required documentation to

Applicants will receive written notification of the decision indicating their type of membership following membership review.
Once an application for membership has been received, the relevant Program Leader will evaluate the application. When the Program Leader has approved an application, the Leadership Committee will review the application and make a final recommendation to the Center Director.

Cancer Susceptibility & Chemoprevention (Leaders: Gary Stoner, PhD and Ronald Hines, PhD)
Cancer Cell Signaling and Metabolism (Leaders: Balaraman Kalyanaraman, PhD and Carol Williams, PhD)
Angiogenesis, Metastasis & the Tumor Microenvironment (Leaders: Michael Dwinell, PhD and William Campbell, PhD)
Cancer Imaging (Leaders: Kathleen Schmainda, PhD and Shi-Jiang Li, PhD)
Hematologic Malignancy & Transplantation (Leader: William Drobyski, MD)
Population Sciences (Leaders: Ann Nattinger, MD, MPH and Joan Neuner, MD, MPH)
Experimental Therapeutics (Leader: James Thomas, MD, PhD)
New membership applications will be reviewed quarterly at the Leadership Committee meetings and every member will be reviewed at least once a year to ensure they continue to maintain a cancer focus and meet all criteria for membership status. As a result of this evaluation, membership can be revoked, or members can be assigned to a different membership category as appropriate. This evaluation is based on member productivity with respect to cancer publications, grants, and clinical trial accrual.
* Definition of Peer-Reviewed, Funded Research (per NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Guidelines):
Awarded individual research grants, cooperative agreements and research contracts from the NCI including all awards with the following prefixes: R01, R03, R18, R21, R24, R25E, R29, R33, R35, R37, R41, R42, R43, R44, R55, P01 and P50 sub-projects, P30s other than the CCSG, U01, U54, U56, N01 research contracts and peer-reviewed, funded subcontracts of center members participating in collaborative research. (Note: Shared resources/cores of multi-component grants are not eligible for inclusion.)
Components of National Cooperative Groups (e.g., U10s, U19s) funded by the NCI
Individual research studies involving protocols approved by the NCI Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) and funded by NCI.
Individual research studies involving prevention and control protocols approved by the NCI Cancer Control Protocol Review Committee and funded by NCI.
Awarded research grants, cooperative agreements, and research contracts from other institutes of the NIH (same prefixes as above).
