AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY PILOT RESEARCH GRANT
($50,000 for 1 year)
The American Cancer Society provides seed money for the initiation of promising new projects by junior faculty with the goal of enabling them to compete successfully for national grants. The maximum award is $50,000 for one-year ($30,000 from the ACS plus $20,000 from the MCW Cancer Center). To qualify for an ACS Pilot Research Grant, the PI must be an MCW junior faculty member (Assistant Professor or Instructor within 6 yrs of first faculty appointment), not have any current national grant support (K-awards are allowed) and propose a research project relevant to cancer or cancer biology. Applicants must be US citizens, non-national citizens or lawfully admitted to US for permanent residence. Two awards are anticipated.

INTERDISCIPLINARY CANCER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
($50,000 for 1 year)
Applications will be accepted for Interdisciplinary Research Project Fellowships. This award is intended to encourage collaboration between faculty investigators by supporting a “shared” post-doctoral fellow. Maximum award is $50,000 for one year. Fellows will be eligible to apply for a second year of funding based on productivity. The project must have a cancer focus and involve at least two MCW faculty members as Co-PIs. Provide a description of the interdisciplinary nature of the research and how the project will enhance the interactions and synergy between the faculty investigators and their respective laboratories. No salary for faculty investigators is allowed. The funds may be used for the salary and FBs of a fellow, for supplies and essential services for the project, or for a combination of these. Preliminary data that support the experimental hypothesis and approach should be included in the application. Requests will be accepted in all areas of cancer research. Two awards are anticipated.

BREAST and PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH GRANT or FELLOWSHIP
Supported by the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse and
State of Wisconsin Tax Check-Off Program
($100,000 over 2 years)
Applications will be accepted for two-year research grants and/or post-doctoral fellowships in areas related to breast and/or prostate cancer through the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse (WBCS) and the State of Wisconsin Tax Check-Off Program. Basic and/or translational research projects are eligible. The relevance of the work to breast or prostate cancer must be clearly described. The PI must have an MCW faculty appointment. The maximum award is $100,000 over two years. Salary for the PI or Co-Investigators is NOT allowed, but salary for a post-doctoral fellow is permitted. Preliminary data that support the experimental hypothesis or approach should be included in the application.
Please note that applications dealing with improving clinical detection of cancer or patient care are NOT eligible for support from the WBCS funds, but they are eligible for State of Wisconsin funds. PIs supported by previous WBCS grants are eligible to apply for support of a NEW project, but not continuation of previously funded project.
For State of Wisconsin funds, there is a “non-supplanting” requirement, which means that in the event of an award, the PI must certify in writing that the funds are not being used to replace any existing support.
Up to four awards are anticipated.
