Dr. Earnestine Willis received the 2008 Sacagawea Award from Professional Dimensions, a networking organization for professional women. Professional Dimensions named the award after Sacagawea, the only woman on the Lewis and Clark expedition, to honor women in the Milwaukee community who, like her, distinguish themselves by power, spirit, insight, thoughtfulness, leadership, determination, courage and adaptability. Sacagawea, whose name means “bird woman,” proved to be incredibly valuable to the expedition, even given a full vote in deciding where to spend the winter. She was legendary for her perseverance and resourcefulness.
