Research Area: Human embryonic stem cells as a tool to elucidate novel pathways in liver development
I am a graduate student in the lab of Dr. Stephen Duncan, a lab that focuses on mammalian development and disease. I first became interested in developmental biology while attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where I received my bachelor of science degree in biochemistry.
The focus of my research is to study human fetal development using an embryonic stem cell model. Currently, human embryonic stem cells can be differentiated in vitro to become mature cell types. Using published data, along with my own innovations, I hope to identify novel genes involved in hepatogenesis. This will be an important discovery in drug screening, and will be useful in clinical therapies.
