Research Area: The therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells in traumatic brain injury and neurodegeneration

I received my bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Marquette University in 2012.  Subsequently, I joined the Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences at the Medical College of Wisconsin for my graduate education.  My interest in brain injury and disease led me to work with Dr. Glavaski-Joksimovic in the Neuroscience Research Laboratories at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center.  Our research is focused on the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and neurodegeneration.  We currently utilize organotypic hippocampal slice cultures to develop in vitro models of weight-drop and blast TBI.  These models allow us to study MSC neuroprotective effects and underlying mechanisms under a more controlled environment.
