Research Area:  Mechanotransduction, sensation and pain

While studying neuroscience at Skidmore College I began to appreciate the complexity and intricacies of the nervous system. Excited to be able to study both medicine and the quickly growing field of neuroscience, I joined the MSTP at MCW in 2010 and have since joined the Stucky lab. My future research in the Stucky lab will aim to contribute to our understanding of mechanotransduction by employing a variety of techniques ranging from electrophysiology to behavioral studies. My project aims to elucidate the mechanisms of pain sensation and hypersensitivity, particularly in forms of chronic pain, and how TRPA1 and other ion channels may play an integral role. Many chronic pain conditions are quite common and often debilitating; as such, my research has an ultimate goal of understanding the mechanisms of pain and hypersensitivity in order to generate future therapeutic options.
