Research Area: Induced pluripotent stem cells as a model system to elucidate mechanism of Spinal Muscular Atrophy
I received my Bachelor of Science degree from St. Norbert College in 2008 and then began my career at the Medical College of Wisconsin working as a technician for two years. I entered the graduate school through the Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences. I quickly decided my primary interests were in the fields of developmental and stem cell biology. After four rotations, I joined the lab of Dr. Allison Ebert in the department of Cell Biology. Our lab studies neurodegenerative diseases such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Huntington’s Disease. My project focuses on the involvement of Neuronal Apoptosis Inhibitor Protein (NAIP) in SMA. Specifically, the ways NAIP affects disease severity.
