Komen/Kohl's Conversations for the Cure

Goal of this project: 

Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure is a series of educational sessions where women can openly discuss breast cancer and the potential impact it can have on their lives. The goal of these sessions is to encourage women to obtain regular breast health screenings, thereby increasing the survival rates throughout Southeast Wisconsin.

Role on the project: 

• Formal evaluation of the Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure project.

Evaluation Tasks:

• Outcome evaluation to determine if the partnership met its overall goal to increase awareness and knowledge of screening guidelines and increase the number of women following recommended guidelines (mammography or clinical breast exams).
  • Measurement strategies include tracking the following:
    • Number of Conversation Leaders recruited and trained
    • Number of Conversations held
    • Number of participants at each session and overall
    • Aggregate data on participants’ experiences with breast cancer screening (e.g. common barriers, concerns, ways of accessing health information)
    • Number of participants that commit to getting screened as a result of the Conversation
    • Number of participants that have screening documented
       
• In addition, the strategies below will provide more in-depth information describing the program’s effectiveness for both leaders and participants:
  • Survey of Conversation Leaders
  • Focus group and/or interviews with select Conversation Leaders to assess their experiences and perceptions of the effectiveness of the Conversations curriculum and overall project
  • Surveys of Conversation participants
