Stop Abuse and Neglect of Elders (S.A.N.E.): 

Increasing Capacity to Respond

The purpose of this project is to prevent disability and death from intentional and unintentional injuries related to the maltreatment of elders.

Partners:

• Center for Healthy Communities, Department of Family and Community Medicine, Medical College of Wisconsin
• Milwaukee County Department on Aging

Goals of the Program:

• Increase the number of substantial reports of elder maltreatment through a clear, powerful message and evidence-based approach
• Develop and test effective, innovative self-sustaining educational program for community service providers
• Develop and target evidence-based tools and educational models for area physicians and their staff to identify, respond and refer at risk elders, and to enhance medical education's capacity to train competent workforce sensitive to the needs of the vulnerable elderly
• Increase communication among interested agencies and enhancement of the Milwaukee County Department on Aging data collection system to track reports, referrals, and outcomes
