Intervention Strategies for Head & Neck Cancer

Intervention strategies for our head and neck cancer patients are individualized and are dependent on specific physical and functional deficits and the patient's personal goals.

Direct intervention might include:
  • Exercises/strategies to improve speech intelligibility
  • Exercises to increase mouth opening
  • Diet modifications, strategies, and/or exercises to improve swallowing function
  • Facilitation of an alternative means of communication for a laryngectomy may include esophageal speech, tracheoesophageal puncture voice, or use of an artificial larynx.
