8th World Congress for Microcirculation held in Milwaukee in August

The 8th World Congress for Microcirculation was held Aug. 15-19 at the Midwest Airlines Center in downtown Milwaukee. This was the first time this event, which occurs at four-five year intervals, was held in the United States since 1991, and the first time it was held in Wisconsin. The Medical College of Wisconsin hosted the event in conjunction with the Microcirculatory Society. More than 500 people, representing 30 countries from six continents, attended.

AHA Metro Milwaukee Heart Walk planned for Oct. 13

The American Heart Association (AHA) 2007 Metro Milwaukee Heart Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, and begin at GE Healthcare in the Milwaukee County Research Park. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. The AHA supports research at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

CVC-Blood Research Institute Connection Contributes to Cardiovascular Discoveries

Since its inception, the close relationship between the Blood Research Institute (BRI) of the BloodCenter of Wisconsin and the Cardiovascular Research Center (CVC) has contributed to a vibrant campus-wide network of scientific discovery and patient care. Most of the 21 investigator-level scientists at the BRI also hold joint faculty appointments at the Medical College, and many collaborate on CVC initiatives.

The Cardiovascular Center (CVC), the Department of Physiology and the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) will begin a new research training collaboration next year. David R. Harder, PhD, is Director of the CVC, Allen W. Cowley Jr., PhD, is Chairman of Physiology, and Timothy Dillingham, MD, is Chairman of PM&R.
