ACADEMIC PEDIATRIC PHYSIATRIST POSITION

 
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Wisconsin seeks a pediatric physiatrist with a strong desire to join our outstanding physical medicine and rehabilitation program at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Our Pediatric PM&R section works in a true interdisciplinary manner with other subspecialty services within the outpatient and inpatient setting, and has a pediatric PM&R fellowship. Outpatients services at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin includes clinics such as CP, Spina Bifida, Neuromuscular, EMG, Seating, Seizure Surgery, Brain injury and Tone Management clinics.
 
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is a 236-bed freestanding hospital dedicated solely to the care of children. Children’s hospital is the only pediatric Level 1 trauma center in southeastern Wisconsin, and has been ranked in the top three of the leading pediatric specialty hospital by Child Magazine. During 2007, 22,783 infants, children and adolescents were admitted and 256,986 were seen in the hospital's specialty outpatient clinics. The Emergency Department/Trauma Center treated 61,379 children and 14,239 surgical procedures were performed.
 
The Medical College of Wisconsin is a major national research center; the largest research institution in the Milwaukee metro area and 2nd largest in Wisconsin. In fiscal year 2006-07, faculty received approximately $143 million in external support for research, teaching, training and related purposes, of which approximately $130 million is for research.
 
Milwaukee is the cultural and economic center of Wisconsin. The city boasts a moderate cost of living and a four-season climate. Milwaukee is home to three major sports teams, many shopping centers and malls and a variety of county parks in addition to a beautiful lakefront. Milwaukee offers an excellent ballet, opera, and symphony as well as various live theatrical opportunities. Special attractions are available throughout the area year round.
 
If you are a Physiatrist who is board eligible, or through extensive experience in pediatric rehabilitation brings well developed skills in pediatric rehabilitation, you would be a candidate for this position. An interest in becoming a leader in academic pediatric physiatry, and a desire to enhance the science in this area of specialty, are pluses. Our program provides ample opportunity to grow and great flexibility in one of the leading pediatric institutions in the country.

ACADEMIC PHYSIATRIST POSITIONS
 
 
The Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Wisconsin seek board certified/eligible physiatrists with a strong desire to further our science and become academic leaders in our field. We offer research time, support, and mentorship for successful candidates.  These positions include:
1)      General Physiatrists (2 positions) for the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center to participate in general inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. The outpatient care involves Electrodiagnosis, Musculoskeletal medicine and rehabilitation for our veterans and returning combat soldiers.
2)      General Physiatrist for Froedtert Hospital and outlying clinics to participate in inpatient and outpatient services. Outpatient services will include working at new outlying clinics located throughout southeastern Wisconsin, with many opportunities to develop and grow new programs. Musculoskeletal skills are highly desirable.
 
Successful candidates should bring strong clinical and interpersonal skills. Fellowship training or special expertise in an area of PM&R (such as ABEM certification) is highly desirable. This position includes involvement in undergraduate and graduate medical education. Research interest and accomplishments are a plus. 
 
The department enjoys a large integrated program with 25 faculty at three major teaching hospitals; i) Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Administration Hospital, ii) Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, and iii) Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. 
 
The Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is an academic tertiary care facility affiliated with the Medical College of Wisconsin. The VA Medical Center provides 168 acute care hospital beds.  Annually, it admits 6,400 patients and records more than 575,000 outpatient visits. It is one of the busiest and most comprehensive centers operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Approximately $17.4 million in research (funded primarily by the VA and the NIH) is conducted by College faculty at the Zablocki VA Medical Center. The Zablocki VA includes a CARF accredited 32 bed inpatient spinal cord injury unit (SCI Center of Excellence) and 11 bed general inpatient rehabilitation unit (Medical Rehabilitation Center of Excellence).
 
Froedtert Hospital is the primary adult hospital affiliate of the Medical College and is staffed by College physicians providing care in all medical specialties and subspecialties. Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin are at the forefront of new technology and care in many areas, including cancer, heart and vascular diseases, brain injury and disorders, spinal cord injury, transplant, communication disorders, digestive diseases, diabetes, orthopedics, urology and women’s health. Froedtert has the only adult Level 1 Trauma Center in eastern Wisconsin. Located within the hospital is a 31 bed inpatient rehabilitation facility, specializing in spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, spasticity and tone management, and general rehabilitation.
