Cohen and Moulder study experimental and clinical radiation nephropathy. This condition occurs clinically after bone marrow transplantation or cancer treatments. Our laboratory has shown the benefit of angiotensin blockade in the treatment of radiation nephropathy. Studies of the detailed mechanism by which this benefit occurs are in progress, including analysis of angiotensin receptors. A clinical study is also ongoing, in adults and children, in which captopril is given to prevent chronic renal failure after bone marrow transplantation.
