The Sreedharan Lab

Kidney tubules are responsible for maintaining fluid, electrolyte and acid base balance in the body. Acute kidney injury with any degree of kidney function involvement affects the morbidity and mortality of sick patients negatively. Studying the molecular changes in the tubule cells during injury and recovery is important in understanding the process to augment the healing process.
My laboratory is involved in studying two well recognized classes of stress inducible molecular chaperones, heat shock protein 70 and heat shock protein 25/27 (HSP70 and HSP25) and their function in modulating renal cell injury of different degrees and recovery from the damage. We study kidney injury in tissue culture and animals to comprehend the pathobiological process of renal insult and connect it to the clinical setting.
