Accident Insurance for Rotations Outside of USA

Housestaff who are doing approved rotations outside of the United States will be provided accident insurance. In addition to a $250,000 Accidental Death Benefit, the policy provides travel assistance benefits through MEDEX Assistance Corp (MEDEX).

When MEDEX is notified of a medical emergency resulting from an unexpected illness or injury, its multilingual staff will establish communication with local attending medical personnel in order to obtain a full understanding of the resident's situation and to attempt to monitor his or her condition.  In addition, MEDEX will continue to monitor the status by telephone through contacts with attending medical personnel and will remain in communication with the resident and the resident's family.

If MEDEX, in consultation with a local attending physician, determines that it's medically necessary for a resident to be transported under medical supervision to a different hospital or treatment facility or be repatriated to his/her place of residence for treatment.  MEDEX will arrange and pay up to $50,000 for the transport and will provide medical supervision.

If a covered resident requests a transport related to a condition for which a transport has not been deemed medically necessary by a physician designated by MEDEX in consultation with a local attending physician, and the resident agrees to be financially responsible for all expenses related to that transport, MEDEX will arrange but not pay for such transport to a medical facility.

The resident's health insurance or Worker's Comp insurance will pay for actual medical expenses incurred outside of the United States.
