 Welcome

James S. Hyde, PhD, Director and Professor of Biophysics

The National Biomedical EPR Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin is one of the largest EPR facilities in the nation.  It is a Research Resource supported by NIH.  Spectrometers are available for S-, X-, L-, Q- , and W-band EPR, many with ENDOR, ELDOR, Saturation-Transfer, Saturation Recovery, and multiquantum capabilities

The research conducted within the EPR Center includes both technological innovation and application of new techniques to biological problems.  The main areas of research are free radicals, spin labeling, metal complexes and metallo proteins.  Inquiries on the use of the Center are welcome.

What's New

  • W-band Saturation Recovery EPR facility is ready.  See our recent paper: Froncisz W et al,  J Magn Reson. 193(2),297- (2008)
  • New very low frequency (VLF) loop gap resonators at 2 GHz and 1 GHz have been installed yielding exhanced sensitivity for frozen samples.  Initial applications have been to Cu++ square planar complexes.   See our recent paper:  Hyde JS et al, Biophysical Journal, April 2009.
