What is POP3?
  1. Short for Post Office Protocol, the most recent version of a standard protocol for receiving e-mail.
  2. POP3 is a less sophisticated client/server protocol in which e-mail is received and held for you by your Internet server. Periodically, you (or your client e-mail receiver) check your mail-box on the server and download any mail.
  3. POP can be thought of as a "store-and-forward" service. POP3 deals with the receiving of e-mail and are not to be confused with the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.

NOTE:

  1. It is important to remember that your E-mail client will download the messages from the server to your computer.  Once this is done, the messages are no longer accessible from the server.
  2. Each E-mail Client has advanced settings to allow you to leave a copy of the message on the server if needed.
