Randall S. Lambrecht, PhD, Dean of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM), is a distinguished advocate for senior citizens. At UWM, he helped launch the university's Age and Community Initiative, which takes a comprehensive approach with regard to the health and quality of life of seniors, and draws on the resources and talents at the university and in the community. The College also collaborates with the Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to provide services for the elderly, and in conjunction with the Milwaukee County Dept. of Aging has received over $1 million in funding for activities related to the health of older adults.
As Dean at UWM, Dr. Lambrecht has supported faculty and staff in their efforts to oversee "Wellness Works," the successful older adult fitness program at Milwaukee's Washington Park Senior Center, as well as other community-based senior citizen centers. He has also worked collaboratively with Milwaukee County's Department on Aging to develop prevention projects in family care resource centers. These include fitness programs, fall risk assessments and the development of early health intervention models.
At UWM, Dr. Lambrecht oversees over 20 health related programs that supply Wisconsin with health care personnel ranging from therapists, diagnosticians, and health care administrators, to informatics and health care promotion and wellness. His expertise encompasses the full range of health care concerns, ranging from issues of access and delivery to outcomes and evaluation.
Dr. Lambrecht's education and training are rooted in the basic sciences and in preventive medicine, fields that provide him with a firm understanding of the issues surrounding public health. He received his undergraduate degree in medical technology and his Master of Science degree in infectious disease epidemiology from the University of Wisconsin Madison. He also earned his Ph.D. in medical microbiology and immunology from UW-Madison.
