Research for a Healthier Wisconsin

From the Desk of the Senior Associate Dean for ResearchDavid D. Gutterman, MD

Research is the cornerstone for developing new therapies to improve human health. The Medical College of Wisconsin leverages its assets and academic expertise from many fields of science to promote discoveries that translate into real progress in treating disease.

Funds from the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment allow basic science and clinical researchers to partner in collaborative research initiatives that are responsive to public and community health needs and enhance the translation of knowledge into community practice. These collaborations currently focus on research initiatives addressing the leading causes of death and disability, including: cardiovascular disease, cancer, neuroscience and genetics. The Endowment also supports additional research priorities, such as functional imaging, bioinformatics and biotechnology and engineering, which utilize leading edge technologies to more rapidly translate new discoveries directly to patient care.

The Medical College of Wisconsin is committed to fostering scientific and community partnerships that further our research mission to meet human health challenges today and tomorrow. We look forward to bringing new therapies and technologies to the public, as these advances enfold.
