Staff from the Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program conducted statewide pre-application sessions following the release of the 4th Funding Cycle RFP. Informational sessions focusing on the specific components of the RFP were free and attendance was not required for proposal submission.

Lynn Miner, PhD; founder and CEO of Miner and Associates, Inc., a nationwide firm training successful grantseekers and fundraisers, taught the practical elements of planning and writing proposals specifically tailored to the HWPP requirements, key components and actual examples of persuasive writing. Equally important, he directly addressed some of the major barriers to getting grants – overcoming inexperience, insufficient time and conflicting priorities.

Members of a successful community–academic partnership project, Strong Rural Communities Initiative, shared their insight regarding the distinct roles within their partnership, how they found each other, the process they used for writing their proposal, tips for open communication, effective reporting and opportunities for leveraging funding.
HWPP Partnerships from a National Merit Reviewer Perspective
David Nelson, PhD, a national merit reviewer of the HWPP 2nd funding cycle proposals, will discuss how communities and campuses across the country are collaborating to create powerful tools and promote health through service-learning, community-based participatory research, broad-based coalitions and other partnership strategies. This session will provide the unique experience of hearing first hand from one of the HWPP national merit reviewers on the importance placed on strong partnerships during the review process.
