Rose Franco, MD

         Dr. Rose A. Franco has expertise in the evaluation and care of all pulmonary diseases from COPD and Asthma to Pulmonary Fibrosis and Sarcoidosis to Lung Cancer. She is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders. She is the Program Director for the sleep medicine fellowship and has a special interest in the interaction of sleep disordered breathing and its effects on the cardiovascular system and pulmonary function, restless legs syndrome in special populations, and is working to increase awareness of sleep disorders through education for both the public and physicians.

Research Interests

  • Our investigations center on the role of endogenous lipid modulators of pulmonary vascular and airway tone.

  • We use a wide variety of techniques,  including whole organ studies (isolated perfused lungs or arterial and bronchial rings) to immunospecific protein identification, identification and quantitation of lipid metabolites of arachidonic acid, patch clamping for studies of ion channels in plasma membranes, cell signaling experiments (including fluorescent probe tracking of free intracellular ions such as calcium), and identification and sequencing of mRNA coding for proteins that catalyze the formation of biologically active lipid metabolites.

Dr. Francisco J. Soto is the Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program and he is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He has a strong interest in research which led him to complete a Masters of Science in Epidemiology (focused on clinical research) at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2005. He has expertise in the evaluation and care of all pulmonary diseases but presently focuses his care in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary vascular disease, both idiopathic and secondary to other causes such as collagen vascular disease, interstitial lung disease, left heart disease and others. Many of the patients seen in his clinic are evaluated for dyspnea that can not be explained by other underlying conditions.
