Are you open to the public?
Yes. Many of our users are patients, families of patients, members of the general public seeking consumer health information, researchers, and health care professionals. Members of the public can use our resources onsite including books, journals, and databases.

What are the reference desk hours?
The reference desk is staffed Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Librarians are available Monday - Friday beginning at 8 a.m. to help with questions. Call (414) 456-8302 to ask a reference question by phone. Also, questions may be e-mailed at any time to
asklib@mcw.edu.
Where can visitors to the MCW Libraries park?
Visitors to the MCW Libraries can park in the Visitor's
Lot
for free on an as-available basis. (The lot may be full or reserved if there's a special event.) The Visitor's Lot is across

from the
Health
Research
Center
of the
Medical
College
in which the Todd Wehr Library is located. (

.) If you are going to the library on a weekday before 4 p.m., tell the attendant on duty that you are visiting the library (or use the intercom if no attendant is available). After 4 p.m. and on weekends, the gates to the Visitor's
Lot
will be open.
How can I access MCW Libraries databases and electronic journals from home?
Users can choose the Proxy Server as the way to access databases and electronic journals from off-campus. Only MCW faculty, staff, and students are eligible for this service. Please see our

Can I request an item owned by the MCW Libraries without coming to the library?
Yes, the Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries provides document delivery service to Medical College of Wisconsin, Children's
Hospital
of
Wisconsin
, and
Froedtert
Hospital
faculty, staff, and students. To learn more about this service, visit our

How can I request items not owned by the MCW Libraries?
You may request items not owned by the library the same way that you can request items that are owned. Please see our

I'm located at the VA and I'm having trouble accessing MCW Libraries resources. What's wrong?
Some MCW faculty, staff, residents and students located at the VA can access MCW Libraries resources directly. For those that can't, use the library's proxy server at
proxy.lib.mcw.edu
. A Remote Access Account is required. Please see our
Getting Connected Guide
for more information.
Do I need a password to access Medline and the other Ovid databases?
No, you can click on "Generic Login" from the
Ovid login screen
. A personal account is required if you want to: 1) create a permanent profile for document ordering (the document ordering feature works without a personal account); 2) save searches and 3) use AutoAlerts.
I have forgotten my personal Ovid (Medline) password. Where can I call for help?
Call MCW Libraries' Systems Department at (414) 456-4290. They can reset the password.
I want to change my Ovid password. How can I do it?
Ovid users with personal accounts cannot arbitrarily change their password. Call MCW Libraries' Systems Department at (414) 456-4290 to have your password reset. The new password must be 6 to 8 characters in length and contain at least 1 number.
Are photocopiers and printers available in the libraries?
For the convenience of library users, photocopiers are located in the Todd Wehr Library, Froedtert Library, and Children's Hospital Library. A nominal fee is charged for photocopies.
Laser printers are available in the
Microcomputer
Center
at Todd Wehr Library and at the patron workstations at Froedtert Library.
Laser printing operates only with a copy card, which can be purchased from a vending machine in Todd Wehr
or at the circulation desk at Froedtert
Library.
Color laser printing is available at Todd Wehr for an additional cost
