Strategic Actions: People

We will attract and retain exceptional people throughout our institution. We will continue to nurture a culture that is rooted in our core values. Our culture will invite learners to earn their advanced degree and receive training at the Medical College of Wisconsin as well as encourage faculty and staff to cultivate and achieve their professional aspirations here.

 


 

We will enroll outstanding medical students by:

  • Offering participation in a comprehensive, diverse spectrum of research, clinical practice and community-based activities.
  • Providing an educational environment that employs advanced teaching technologies and dedicated and skilled educators.
  • Developing competency-based curricula, new programs and new degrees that incorporate the evolving science in the practice of medicine.


We will attract outstanding residents and fellows by:

  • Providing a comprehensive, broad array of advanced training opportunities, including subspecialties.
  • Developing new residency training and curricula that anticipate the changing demands in the practice of medicine.
  • Providing the opportunity to select and participate in ongoing research pathways in the basic sciences.
  • Expanding our education opportunities for residents locally and internationally.
  • Creating opportunities for residents and fellows to obtain additional postgraduate degrees in clinical translational research, the biomedical sciences and related fields, and certificates of elective experiences.

 
We will attract and enroll outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows by:

  • Expanding the number and scope of extramural training grants that support students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Assisting students and postdoctoral fellows in their efforts to compete for individual fellowships.
  • Fostering the career development of students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Creating new graduate programs in public health and in response to discoveries in the biomedical sciences.


We will attract and retain faculty and staff of exceptional stature by:

  • Cultivating an environment that offers a high quality work life and allows faculty and staff to fulfill their responsibilities and achieve their career aspirations.
  • Recognizing and rewarding excellence in the performance of all College missions.
  • Establishing an optimal work environment that fosters continuous improvement, organizational renewal, and exceptional service to members of our community.
  • Utilizing the latest, proven information systems technology to maintain the highest quality of service in support of the College's missions.
