Over the past 15 years, we have developed one of the preeminent training programs in the country. The aim of our program is to train pediatric hematologists/oncologists who will advance our field through excellence in patient care, teaching, and clinical or laboratory-based research. We meet this goal by emphasizing both clinical and scholarly activity.
Our program combines broad clinical training and abundant research opportunities in a collegial work environment. The three-year fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology-Transplantation at the Medical College of Wisconsin/Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee offers:
• Multidisciplinary approaches to patients with Hematological, Oncological and Immunological diseases • Clinical and laboratory-based research opportunities within the section, the department of Pediatrics, the medical school and the blood research institute • Opportunities to teach medical students, residents and colleagues • Preparation for a career in academic medicine During the three year training program, time is distributed to ensure that fellows develop both clinical and research expertise. The program provides approximately 12 months in the first year and 1 month in years 2 and 3 for clinical work. There is approximately 20 months of protected time for hypothesis driven research in years 2 and three.
