Welcome to the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine. We are thrilled that you are considering our Department's educational offerings. We are proud of the educational resources we have to offer and are continuously evaluating our program to give you the best possible learning experience.
MCW has a wonderful, diverse patient population that will challenge and strengthen your budding diagnostic skills. Our status as a busy level 1 trauma center means that you will gain hands-on experience managing the blunt and penetrating traumatic injuries that other programs only read about in textbooks. And as the hub center for the Milwaukee County EMS system and Flight for Life helicopter transport, you can join us as we manage critically ill patients via telemedicine in our paramedic base.
Our brand new ED opened in November 2007 and is a model of modern, efficient emergency care, showcasing an electronic medical record, dedicated CT scanner in the ED, bedside ultrasound, and Vocera headset communication technology.
Our faculty come from diverse academic backgrounds with one thing in common: we are dedicated to excellence in teaching. Our faculty group includes world renowned experts in resuscitation, disaster medicine, injury epidemiology, emergency ultrasound, airway management, traumatic brain injury, and, of course, resident and medical student education.
Our residents also come from diverse backgrounds, and are selected for their teaching interest as well as clinical skills. In addition to working directly with faculty, students rotating in the ED will have the opportunity to interact with our residents and learn about the life on an Emergency Medicine trainee. MCW students, regardless of their specialty choice, have recognized our residents with campus-wide teaching awards.
We welcome MCW students of all years to visit our Department and explore our offerings and get to know us. We also welcome visiting students from other institutions to consider an away rotation with us.
