Proceeds from this event will be used to support the continuing effectiveness of the emergency medical services system with educational programming, training opportunities and research projects at the Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Emergency Medicine.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel perform a vital public service as first responders.  Whether it's at the scene of a serious vehicle crash, an industrial disaster, or answering a 911 call from a business, an EMS team's training and respose time can mean the difference between life, and disability or death. 

All proceeds from the Hometown Heroes Emergency Medical Services Golf Tournament support efforts by the Medical College to enhance southeastern Wisconsin's emergency medical services system, and the following special research projects and priorities for 2008:

1. Purchase advanced patient monitoring and communication technology to:
   • Improve patient care;
   • Generate scientific discoveries;
   • Provide real time patient status feedback CPR administration; and
   • Record information for scientific analysis.
2. Invest in the next generation of EMS researchers by:
   • Developing future EMS research scientists; and
   • Supporting fellowship and mentoring programs.
3. Foster new scientific endeavors by:
   • Providing seed monies to EMS providers, students, residents and Medical College faculty; and
   • Funding new and innovative EMS research initiatives.
