Dr. Joseph Goveas receives NARSAD Young Investigator Award

May 8, 2008 College News - Joseph Goveas, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, has received a highly esteemed Young Investigator Award from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD). Early career academic faculty in psychiatry from the United States and Canada compete for this award, which provides two years of project and professional development support for promising young neurobiological researchers. 
 
Dr. Goveas's research study is on the psychiatric manifestations of mild cognitive impairment, which is considered a prodromal state of Alzheimer's disease. 
 
Piero G. Antuono, MD, and Laura Roberts, MD, will serve as research mentors for this project. Dr. Antuono is Professor of Neurology, and Dr. Roberts is Chairman and the Charles E. Kubly Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and Professor of Population Health (Center for the Study of Bioethics).
 
Jinger Hoop, MD, MFA, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, and Ryan Spellecy, PhD, Assistant Professor of Population Health (Biostatistics), are also NARSAD Young Investigators. They are currently completing their funded projects on ethical issues in psychiatric genetics and on advance directives in psychiatric research, respectively.
