Gynecologic Oncology Surgery Sub 1: 316-614


Elective Goals

  • Learn to diagnose gynecologic malignancies and improve pelvic exam skills.
  • Understand the treatment of gynecologic malignancies and the expected results. 
  • Improve surgical skills and enhance knowledge of surgical anatomy of the female pelvis by assisting in pelvic surgery of gynecologic malignancies. 
  • Learn the indications and principles of radiation and chemotherapy for various gynecologic malignancies.

Learning Activities

  • Attend scheduled outpatients clinics, operating room, and inpatient wards with the resident and attending.
  • Attend joint clinics with Gynecologic Oncology and Radiation Therapy.
  • Second or first assist at surgery of women with gynecologic malignancies, and actively participate in the management and decision-making of their care postoperatively. 
  • Attend and present at the weekly Gynecologic Tumor Board and Tumor Conference. This is a multidisciplinary conference attended by the Gynecologic Oncology Team, Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Therapy, and Pathology. When appropriate, people from other disciplines are also present.
  • Students will conduct a literature search and conduct an oral presentation on a gynecologic oncology topic at weekly gynecology tumor conference.
