Vacation
First-year residents are entitled to three weeks of paid vacation per year. All other residents are also entitled to three weeks of paid vacation and one week of paid education leave per year. These are scheduled according to the resident's preferences. Additional vacation time is provided for the major calendar holidays - coverage is arranged by the residents themselves. Chief residents are also allowed extra vacation time for practice or fellowship interviews.
CME Conference Time
Second-year residents and above also receive one week to attend the CME conference of their choice. Department education funds (see below) can be used to pay for this experience.
Educational Conference
All residents have protected time every Wednesday morning to attend the residency-wide grand rounds at one of our hospitals. Dr. Cruikshank leads a 90-minute morbidity and mortality conference followed by 60-120 minutes of didactic lectures on a wide variety of pertinent subjects. Dr. Cruikshank or Dr. Lemen will meet with one level of residents following every meeting.
An original research project presented at the end of the third year of training is required. Several other, smaller scale presentations during all 4 years of training are also required.
