Until December 1995, there were two adult hospitals on the campus of the Medical College of Wisconsin. These hospitals were Froedtert Hospital, a private hospital, and the John L. Doyne Hospital, a public hospital which for most of its 130 year existence was known as Milwaukee County Hospital. All of Doyne Hospital's assets and clinical programs were taken over by Froedtert Hospital, creating one full service acute care adult hospital on the campus. At this hospital there are approximately 900 obstetric deliveries per year, the majority of which are high-risk. The Froedtert Birth Center is physically located in Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. This physical proximity of Maternal and Neonatal facilities allows us to provide unparalleled care in the region. This reason, the birth center has become one of Southeastern Wisconsin's state-of-the-art perinatal referral centers.
The gynecologic inpatient service at Froedtert Hospital has 300 major and 350 minor gynecologic operations performed annually. The hospital houses the only Level I Trauma Center in Southeastern Wisconsin and is the home of Flight for Life aeromedical transport.
Froedtert also hosts the Medical College of Wisconsin's outpatient clinics. All resident clinics are held in this outpatient setting as well as the majority of faculty clinics. The clinics are spacious and comfortable with quick patient access to laboratory, radiology and outpatient pharmacy.
