Patients are seen in the Resident OB Clinic with management of prenatal care, labor, delivery and postpartum care by the resident teaching service. Clinical volume is considered a valuable experience by the resident physicians. While on service at this hospital, there is an outpatient resident gynecology clinic as well, which is a an additional source of outpatient as well as surgical patients for the residents while on this rotation.
In addition to obstetrics and gynecology, there are subspecialty rotations at Columbia St. Mary's. The PGY-III gynecology experience at Columbia St. Mary's is considered to have gynecologic oncology emphasis. Residents work very closely with two gynecologic oncologists who practice fulltime at Columbia St. Mary's. Additionally, there is a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility rotation where residents perform and/or assist with some procedures, such as artificial insemination, hysteroscopy, operative laparoscopy and endoscopic laser surgery.
