    Thinking About Utilizing the CTSI?

As of December 1, 2007, the GCRC has become part of the Southeastern Wisconsin Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) and is now known as the Translational Research Units (TRUs). The goal of the TRUs is to provide clinical research infrastructure for medical scientists who conduct patient-oriented research. Every service previously offered by the GCRC will still be offered by the CTSI, and additional services will now be available (please visit the CTSI website).

The TRUs can be used by investigators who are supported by the NIH or other peer-reviewed research funding agencies. The TRUs are also appropriate sites for pilot studies that may lead to future research support. Industry-sponsored studies may be conducted on the TRUs, though industry sponsors will be asked to pay fees to support these studies.

Please consider applying to the TRUs for support with your project if:
    1)    you require outpatient nursing services unavailable through routine patient care
    2)    you need assistance with power calculations, statistical analysis, or in establishing a patient database
    3)    you can benefit from the services of a Registered Nutritionist/Dietitian
    4)    you require laboratory services that are not covered by other funding sources, or at a lower fee than available through clinical sources
    5)    you require fMRI, GI manometry, sleep lab, or vascular function resources for research purposes (web pages for the last 3 are under development)

Please check our website links for more details on TRUs core resources in Bionutition and Body Composition, CTSI Core Laboratory, CTSI Biostatistics, CTSI Biomedical Informatics, and fMRI.

What’s in the Works for the TRUs?
The former GCRC had Adult and Pediatric Units. The TRUs are in the process of expanding. A new TRU will be established in the VA in spring, 2008. Community and mobile TRUs are also being developed. Please check our website for further information on these as they become function later in 2008.
