"As Chief of Pediatric Rheumatology, it is my personal goal and the mission of the Pediatric Rheumatology Section to provide the highest quality care to children with rheumatologic diseases. Our comprehensive approach utilizes a multidisciplinary health care team to meet with diverse clinical needs of our patients. This team of specialized professionals also conducts clinical research on new medications and treatments, providing patients with cutting-edge therapeutic choices. Our section has a strong basic science research effort focused on discovering the causes of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and other autoimmune diseases that affect children. It is my belief that a fundamental knowledge of the processes that protect us from autoimmunity will provide the insights necessary to cure these debilitating and life-threatening diseases."
