Department of Radiation Oncology 8701 Watertown Plank Road Milwaukee, WI 53226
Message from the Chairman: "The departmental focus is upon cancer patient care, education for future physicians, as well as clinical, translational and laboratory research. The Department of Radiation Oncology's goal in medical student education is to provide future physicians with a critically important basic understanding of the clinical manifestations of and treatment rationales for cancer. Rotations through the Department of Radiation Oncology will provide clinical experience with a vast spectrum of malignant neoplasms. Students are exposed to the entire range of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities which relate to these malignancies. Educational experiences are provided not only at the tertiary facility on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus, but also in various other clinical settings such as the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center and community hospitals.
Faculty in the Department of Radiation Oncology conduct basic, translational, and clinical research with major emphasis on adaptive radiotherapy, imaging guided radiotherapy, intensity modulated radiotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, and radiation/drug interactions. Further significant research includes low- dose radiation effects, prevention of treatment-associated tissue injury, and development of techniques for prediction of tumor reponse. Stereotactic radiosurgery as well as sophisticated developmental brachytherapy techniques are also emphasized."
