The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin has increased its number of residents per year to five as of ACGME approval in 2002. The clinical experience in the training program has also recently been enhanced by splitting up the trauma/oncology rotation into two separate, free-standing rotations to allow for more one-on-one teaching opportunities and a more focused and complete experience. Throughout the five-year program, the resident rotates in a variety of clinical settings. These rotations provide extensive involvement in all the diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical treatments encompassed by an orthopaedic practice. Rotations include the orthopaedic trauma service at a level-I trauma center, a busy pediatric orthopaedic service, specialty services, and five community hospitals.
