Endowed Funds may be established with a minimum commitment of $10,000. These funds will forever reflect the generosity of a donor, and may be restricted for a specific use such as a scholarship or research. Additional gifts to the fund are welcomed after the Fund's creation. An endowed fund may be named for the donor or in accordance with the donor's wishes. The policy for Medical College of Wisconsin endowment funds provides for a distribution of 50% of the average of total endowment fund net returns for the three most recent fiscal years; however it will never be less than 3%. The distribution amount for a fiscal year beginning on July 1 is based on the previous December 31 balance. Funds received after December 31, or balances under $10,000 on December 31, will not be distributed the next fiscal year. Investment income in excess of the distribution is returned to the principal to offset the effects of inflation. A report on the rate of return and the use of funds is provided annually to the donor.
